Diving in!!

I'm pretty sure I posted earlier about my recent enthusiasm towards photography brought on by the purchase of my combined birthday & Christmas present to myself (with the help of MANY supportive family members)... my Canon Rebel camera. In all honesty - a year ago I would have never thought this was a venture I would pursue... I have never even really owned a nice digital camera until this one. I got my first basic digital camera as a graduation gift from my then boyfriend (& now husband) to capture fun college moments, and got a new version of the same basic idea as a Christmas present a good 5 years ago from my mom. Both very much appreciated... but didn't inspire my new found love for taking photos. I wanted to purchase a really NICE camera so that I could learn to take great photos of Mia (& any future kiddos God may bless us with) so as to avoid having to pay amounts we can't afford to get good shots of our family members. I had no idea how much FUN it was to learn! Ever since I got this camera, I'm pretty sure I've annoyed almost everyone I join in with on any event... because I can't put it down. And I LOVE the editing part! It just fascinates me how many AWESOME things you can do with a cool editing program! And I'm just dabbling in photography at this point... there is SO MUCH to learn! I can't even imagine how much cooler it gets =)

So as you all know - I have been very blessed to get to be a stay at home mama this year up in Roseville. And because of this, I have found time to dive head on into hobbies of mine in order to try to bring in some extra income for our little family (and to hopefully allow me to be a stay at home mama for the foreseeable future!) I have pursued my "craftiness" through the Dainty Doll venture of making hairbows & headbands. (Again... something I totally just fell into upon discovering how much I LOVED these on miss Mia, and how EXPENSIVE they are to buy!) This has been a fun little side business... and is just starting to reach the point where I am coming out ahead. I am hoping to continue this little business as well - but now am hoping to someday supplement that with my photography business venture. (I'm almost embarrassed to call it a business... I am still SO brand new at this & have SO MUCH to learn)

I have been mostly practicing on my willing nieces & nephews, and was recently encouraged by my cousin Val to really pursue it and to organize an event in which I can get more experience & get my name out there as a family photographer. I didn't know what to expect when I first posted the event - but have been so surprised & encouraged by the turn out!! I get to shoot 16 families next week! Ranging from infants to engagement sessions! I couldn't be more excited! I am stalking photography websites & blogs like mad to get ideas for locations, lighting, poses, props, etc. I just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to those of you who are supporting my venture into the world of photography by participating in this event with me! And thank you VAL for your encouragement & this FABULOUS idea!! I promise you all to give 110% of my efforts, and to learn ALL that I can before then to guarantee some great shots for you!! I can't wait to post samples of the pictures from that day!

For those of you not on Facebook (and so, have avoided my THOUSANDS of picture posts & status updates about my progress) here is a little slideshow of my attempts into photography so far:
